Layering Your Scents 101

Perfume Layering Tips You Need to Elevate Your Signature Scent

Great Perfume Layering Tips are always useful when creating your signature scent, or if you just want to get your fragrances to last longer. I love to layer because it makes you feel exclusive. Everyone may have some of the same perfumes in their collection, but it’s how you wear it that makes you stand out. You really have to know your fragrance notes as it’s a very intricate piece when it comes to layering. In this post, I’m going to share a few tips with you so that you can master fragrance layering on your own. So, lets dive in.

Perfume Layering Tips: #1 Build Your Base in the Shower

Perfume Layering Tips

The foundation of perfume layering is 100% relying on the base you build on your skin. Your body is going to be your blank canvas for your fragrances starting in the shower. But before that, you should figure out ahead of time what the main perfume or perfumes you want to wear are going to be. For this illustration we’ll make it easy and use a Vanilla perfume to layer with. Keep in mind this will still work even if the perfume isn’t primarily Vanilla, as long as the perfume you choose has Vanilla in it this still applies. When you shower, use body washes or scrubs that are relatively in the same fragrance family as the perfume you’re going to wear. This is going to create a layer for us to build on top of.

Tip #2: Butter Up

Your perfume is going to need something to cling to, so after your shower products you can then follow up with your body butters/lotions, and oils. Same thing here, you want to use products that have similar fragrance notes like your perfume. Now as for the oils they don’t have to be scented it’s not necessary, but it helps if they are. Apply the oils to some of your hot spots which are wrists, elbows, chests, cleavage, neck, and behind the ears. These hotspots emit heat, and oils in general not only help with longevity but they help perfumes project better by locking them in. Perfumes on dry skin will fade with the quickness, so using lotions and oils will go a very long way for your perfume.

Tip #3 Spray Wisely

Just as we did with the oils, you want to do the same with your perfume and spray in those hotspots first. Then you can spray your clothes and even your hair if you want. Another layering suggestion is to use a similar fragrance body spray to compliment your perfume. We all know body sprays are less expensive than perfumes, so in order to preserve our expensive perfumes use more of the body spray. But if you prefer to just use your perfumes that’s totally fine. However, just be mindful of how much you spray, you shouldn’t spray perfumes the same way you would a body spray.

Don’t underestimate the power of body sprays, pairing them with perfumes takes your scent to a whole new level. Check out my blog post Amazing Sweet Candy Fragrance You Need for V-Day. There I discuss 2 different candy fragrances one being a perfume the other a body spray that when worn together will have you smelling sweet enough to eat.

So, now you should know how to layer your fragrances like a pro. It’s very simple and easy. Remember, as long as you know your fragrance families it will begin to get easier to figure out what to pair your perfumes with. I hope this was helpful and I will continue to provide more posts on layering so stay tuned!
